Brain on holiday: a diary of the first day off
Twenty-three unread emails, a striped bag and a decision made with the heart: today, the brain is out of office.

9:12 am. The phone buzzes. It's the first work email of the day, on the first day of the holidays. She looks at it the way you look at a mosquito at 3 am: respectful of nature, zero intention of cooperating.
9:14 am. Twenty-three emails now. One subject line says “URGENT”, all caps, three exclamation marks. She grabs the red and white striped bag that says Cervello in ferie, Italian for “brain on holiday”, and realises it's not an accessory. It's an official statement.
9:40 am. Beach. Her friend reads the bag, laughs, snaps a photo, posts it. Two people under the next umbrella ask where she got it. A lady in a straw hat wants one for her husband, “whose brain has been on holiday all year anyway”.
10:15 am. The phone sinks to the bottom of the bag, under the towel, the sunscreen and a pack of crackers from 2024. The emails will keep coming. She won't.
Moral of the story: some phrases don't decorate a bag. They give you permission to switch off. That's why the IRONIKS summer line sells itself: people who see it in a shop aren't buying a bag, they're buying a day off.
