Broke: a diary of the 27th of the month
The bank account is crying, the piggy bank too. But at least the socks match the situation.

The 27th of the month. Payday is the 10th. Luca opens his banking app the way you open the fridge after a holiday: slowly, hoping not to see anything scary.
The balance is a number that shouldn't be said out loud. Luca closes the app, opens it again, refreshes. Same number. He crosses his legs and out pops a green sock with banknotes flying away and a crying piggy bank. It says Al verde, Italian for “broke” (literally, “in the green”).
His colleague sees it, looks at the sock, looks at his face, looks at the sock again. Then she breaks her sandwich in half and hands him a piece without a word. Solidarity exists at the office. Especially at the end of the month.
By the afternoon the sock has done the rounds of the coffee break. The accountant on the third floor wants a pair. The purchasing manager says he'll give them to the whole admin department, “for motivation”.
Al verde is one of the most gifted IRONIKS socks between colleagues: it costs little, gets big laughs, and everyone knows someone who is exactly like this on the 27th.
